Trauma Disorder

Trauma disorders are mental health conditions resulting from exposure to a traumatic or stressful event, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Acute Stress Disorder (ASD), and Adjustment Disorders. Symptoms can include intrusive thoughts, nightmares, avoidance, hypervigilance, changes in mood, and physical complaints, which can interfere with daily life. Treatment options like therapy and medication can be effective in managing symptoms and improving recovery.

Triggered by a distressing or life-threatening event.

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety after trauma.

  • Acute Stress Disorder: Short-term reaction after trauma.

  • Adjustment Disorder: Emotional distress following a major life change (e.g., loss, job change).

  • Reactive Attachment Disorder: Seen in children, difficulty forming healthy attachments due to neglect.

Treatment: Trauma-focused therapy (EMDR, CBT), counseling, and sometimes antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications.
